About Us

Welcome to Hurley Village Shop and Cafe — a much-loved local store and gathering place in the heart of Hurley, Berkshire.
For more than 70 years, the shop has served our village community, and in 2025, we began an exciting new chapter. We - Vanessa and Ian Jones, from Frogmill, took over the shop and lovingly transformed it into a warm, welcoming café and sustainable village store — a space where locals and visitors alike can shop, relax, and connect.
Our Story
We heard the previous owner was retiring, she saw an opportunity to create something special for Hurley. Drawing on her passion for good food and her husband Ian’s background in sustainability, the couple set out to reimagine the shop as both a community hub and a destination for the wider region, welcoming guests from Henley, Marlow and beyond.
Using mostly upcycled and reclaimed materials, the pair have renovated the premises on Hurley High Street with care and creativity — from repurposed marble countertops to restored vintage furnishings. Even the outdoor seating area, once a simple service lane, now offers tables for enjoying coffee and cake in the fresh air.
Local, Sustainable and Homegrown
We believe in fresh, seasonal and local. Alongside everyday essentials, you’ll find produce grown in our own allotment and garden — including rhubarb, blackberries, potatoes, tomatoes, cabbages, peas, herbs and more. We also stock homemade cakes (often baked with our own ingredients), artisan bread, local meats, cheese, charcuterie and other regional delicacies.
As Vanessa puts it: “We’re not in competition with supermarkets — what we offer is local, good quality and made with care.”
A Place to Meet, Shop and Belong
The Hurley Village Shop and Cafe isn’t just a place to buy your groceries — it’s a third space where the community can come together. Whether you’re stopping by for your morning paper, meeting friends for a flat white, or picking up a basket of local produce, you’ll always find a friendly face and a warm welcome.
We’re open until 6pm every day — so drop in, take your time, and make yourself at home.
