How to walk to

Hurley Village Shop and Cafe

There’s no better way to reach us than on foot. Whether you’re setting off from Marlow, Henley, or one of the nearby villages, the walk to Hurley Village Shop and Cafe is a beautiful one — following peaceful stretches of the Thames Path and winding through some of the prettiest countryside in Berkshire.

From Marlow, it’s an easy riverside stroll of around two miles, crossing Temple Footbridge and following the Thames as it curves towards Hurley. From Henley, you can enjoy a longer walk of about five miles, taking in scenic meadows, locks, and river views along the way. However you come, you’ll be rewarded with coffee, cake, and a warm welcome when you arrive.

Many visitors make a day of it — a walk, a browse in the shop, a bite to eat, and a wander through our historic village before heading back along the river. It’s one of life’s simple pleasures and a perfect way to enjoy the countryside on your doorstep.

Why not plan your walk today and make Hurley Village Shop and Cafe your next riverside destination?

From Marlow → Hurley (via Thames Path)

  • The Marlow to Hurley River Walk is a well-loved, relatively flat route along the Thames Path.

  • Distance: about 2 miles (3.2 km) one way

  • The route is mostly level, though in wet conditions some stretches may become muddy — good walking shoes are advised.

  • Note: Temple Footbridge is part of the Thames Path here, crossing the river just above Temple Lock.

  • A caveat: because Temple Bridge is currently closed, walkers coming from Marlow may need to take a diversion through Bisham.

  • A circular option (“Marlow & Hurley Lock Circular Walk”) is about 5.94 miles (9.56 km) and takes ~3 hours at a leisurely pace.

Suggested route outline:

  1. Start at Higginson Park (or riverside near Marlow town centre) and head onto the Thames Path heading south toward Hurley.

  2. Follow the riverside path toward Hurley Lock. Cross the footbridge over the river above the Lock.

  3. After crossing, use public footpaths / lanes leading into Hurley village centre (via “alley into Hurley Village Centre”).

  4. From the centre, descend toward High Street and find your way to the shop & café.

From Henley → Hurley

  • Distance: ~5½ miles along the Thames Path

  • The route is scenic, following the river with pleasant views.

  • Parts of the path may involve footbridges, crossings, or diversions — check locally for any path closures.

  • Because Henley is upstream, you would walk westward/downstream along the Thames until you reach Hurley.

Suggested route outline (Henley → Hurley):

  1. Start at Henley, pick up the Thames Path heading downstream toward Hurley.

  2. Continue walking along riverside footpaths, passing through or near villages along the Thames corridor.

  3. At the stretch approaching Hurley Lock, cross the footbridge (Temple Footbridge area) if open.

  4. Enter the village and find your way to High Street for the shop & café.
